Today, on NASCAR.com, there is an opinion article about the Top 35 rule for qualifying in the Sprint Cup Series. The writer gives some solid proof that the rule needs to be reworked. I won’t go into those statistics, but I’ll offer my take on what NASCAR needs to do.
In the article, he points out how many races each driver missed due to the rule. Michael Waltrip and Ward Burton each missed 13 races in which they were one of the 43 fastest qualifiers. A.J. Allmendinger missed 10 races for that reason. In contrast, Robby Gordon was the driver who most took advantage of the rule. Read the rest of this entry »
