Gibbs Making Toyota Look Better

With two test sessions complete, Daytona and Las Vegas, the teams from Joe Gibbs Racing, Tony Stewart, Kyle Busch and Denny Hamlin, have had strong showings.  Under normal circumstances, that wouldn’t be a surprise.  This year, though, their switch to Toyota caused people to wonder where they would shake out. A Different Kind Of Championship Format

Much has been made of the NASCAR Sprint Cup championship format. The “playoff” format that has been use has had mixed results and reviews. Some have called for another revision. In fact, there are several issues that cause concern, among them the fact that someone could potentially miss a few races and still make the Chase, or that those who fans favor missing out. Bill Elliott Back In Daytona

As week two of testing gets under way in Daytona, a familiar face is walking around the garage and racing around the track; Bill Elliott.  Bill is in Daytona testing the Wood Brothers number 21 Little Debbie Ford.  Bill drove much of the season for them last year, and he’s back at Daytona, where he’s had much success, to test the new Car of Tomorrow in preparation for the mid-February event. Week Two Of Testing Begins

Week one of testing at Daytona completed last Wednesday.  The first two days focused on single car speeds, which topped out at just under 185 mph for leader Jimmie Johnson.  The final day focused on drafting speeds, which was paced by Toyota driver Kyle Busch at over 187 mph. No Surprise At Daytona

Day Two is currently under way at Daytona testing and to the surprise of no one, Jimmie Johnson is leading the way. Starting just where he left off last season, in three sessions, Johnson has been the fastest in each session. His top speeds have been just under 185 mph and have been very consistent. Gentlemen, Restart Your Engines
